Product development

Contour Design Inc. was founded in 1995 by Steve Wang. The head office was established in Windham, New Hampshire (USA), where product development continues to this day and the North American market is served. The Perfit Mouse is developed. Two years later, the Perfit Mouse is voted ‘best ergonomic product’ by more than 3,000 ergonomists worldwide.

Later, Contour Design launched the Rollermouse. This is a revolutionary ergonomic computer mouse that is placed between the keyboard and the user. The rollerblade and optical sensor work together to ensure accuracy. Alongside the Rollermouse, the Multimedia Controller Pro is also launched. It is a tool primarily used for editing audio, video and images. It allows you to use pre-programmed shortcuts, such as cut and paste, at the touch of a button.

Meanwhile, the Rollermouse continues to be developed, and the Rollermouse Pro and Rollermouse Free are launched. These offer more features and better meet users’ needs. To date, over 500,000 units of the original Rollermouse have been sold.

In 2015, Contour Design launched its first armrest. This was specially designed as part of the arm and wrist support for the Rollermouse Red, which had won the prestigious Red Dot Award in 2013.

Some time later, Contour Design developed an adjustable mouse: the Unimouse. As it features a continuously adjustable tilt angle ranging from 35 to 70 degrees, it can be adapted to suit everyone. In addition, the thumb rest is adjustable. This makes it easy to get used to an ergonomic mouse if you are accustomed to a traditional mouse; taking small steps from a horizontal to a vertical mouse. A year later, the Unimouse also won the Red Dot Award.

What does Contour do for your body?

Contour focuses primarily on positioning the computer mouse centrally. With a pointing device placed in the centre, you can move your cursor across the entire screen with the slightest of movements. The RollerMouse is specially designed for anyone who spends hours at the computer every day.

Because the mouse is positioned in front of you rather than next to your keyboard, you need to make smaller movements. This can reduce tension in the neck, shoulders, elbows and wrists. This allows you to work without discomfort and concentrate better.

What you think of Contour Design products

We’ve been stocking Contour Design products in our webshop for quite some time now. The Unimouse, in particular, flies off the shelves almost every day. The reviews written about it are therefore full of praise. Carla says that after years of agonising over it, she’s finally made the switch to this ergonomic mouse; ‘I should have done this years ago because of RSI and shoulder problems’. Astrid is also very satisfied with it; she says , “It fits comfortably in the hand and is easy to adjust to personal needs.” Good to hear! Unfortunately, Lucian takes a slightly less positive view of the Unimouse. He says the mouse isn’t suitable for gaming: “If you’re used to high-quality gaming mice, the buttons on this one are very stiff.”

The Rollermouse Red is considerably more expensive than the Unimouse, which is why it is sold less frequently. Nevertheless, the reviews are no less positive. In fact, it receives an average rating of 4.9 out of 5.0.

Marjo had to get used to it, but is now satisfied; she says: “It really helps with the pain in my shoulder... it’s a bit pricey, but it was worth it.”

Leontien is back at work after a long period of illness. “I’m still recovering, but since I’ve been using the Rollermouse, I can work again without any pain.” At the time of writing (April ’22), there are no critical reviews of the Rollermouse Red on our website.
