Your desk stays yours
Some desk lamps claim a permanent spot on your desk, with a base your coffee mug never quite fits next to. The Arc Lamp 02 does it differently: it clamps onto the edge and holds its light over your workspace like a barrier that is always open. Whatever is underneath can stay where it is. (Your coffee too.)
Why the Arc Lamp 02?
A metre of light
The Arc Lamp 02 by Forming Function is an LED desk lamp with a clamp and a lamp head 100 cm wide. The light comes from a strip 98.4 cm long. That way the Arc Lamp 02 lights your whole workspace evenly, instead of one bright spot in the middle of your desk. Handy if you work with two screens or keep paper next to your keyboard.
No base on your desktop
The Arc Lamp 02 clamps onto the edge of a desktop 12 to 40 mm thick. Only a small base plate of 84 x 50 mm sits on top, the rest of the lamp is in the air. So your desktop stays free for what you actually need.
What makes the Arc Lamp 02 so good?
Colours as they really are
The LED light source of the Arc Lamp 02 has a colour rendering index (CRI) of 95. That scale goes up to 100, the value of daylight. The closer to 100, the more natural colours look. Useful if you work with photos, colour samples or print.
Three light colours and dimmable
With the touch controls on the lamp head you choose between 3,000 K (warm white), 4,000 K (neutral white) and 6,000 K (cool white). Using the slider you dim the Arc Lamp 02 to the brightness you find comfortable. On and off sit on the same strip. Nice and simple.
Off when you are away
The lamp head of the Arc Lamp 02 has a motion sensor (PIR) built in. If nobody is at your desk for 15 minutes, the lamp switches itself off.
Prefer not? Then you switch off the sensor of the Arc Lamp 02. Turn the lamp off and hold the light colour button for 10 seconds. Two flashes mean the sensor is on; three flashes mean it is off.

Setting the arm and lamp head
The arm of the Arc Lamp 02 consists of two sections of 38.1 cm on a 33 cm column. The lower joint turns from 45 to 200 degrees, the upper one from 0 to 200 degrees. That lets you place the lamp head high above your screens or low over your work surface. You tilt the lamp head itself up to 20 degrees upwards and 45 degrees downwards.
Choose the right bolt
The Arc Lamp 02 comes with five bolts from 20 to 40 mm long, each for its own desktop thickness. So measure your desktop first and pick the matching bolt, the table is in the manual. Tighten the bolt with the supplied hex key. The manual advises against using a cordless screwdriver.
Energy label and consumption
The Arc Lamp 02 has a built-in LED light source. It falls into energy class G on the scale from A to G, with a consumption of 21 kWh per 1,000 hours of use.

What does energy class G mean?
Since 2021 a stricter scale applies to light sources (EU Regulation 2019/2015). The class depends on how many lumens a light source gives per watt, with a correction for the type of light source. Class G is the lowest class.
The Arc Lamp 02 gives 63 lumens per watt and therefore ends up in class G. If you are mainly looking for the most economical lamp possible, there are desk lamps with a higher class.
How much electricity does the Arc Lamp 02 use?
At full power the Arc Lamp 02 uses 21 kWh per 1,000 hours of use, roughly 21 watts per hour. At 8 hours per working day and 220 working days, that comes to about 37 kWh per year.
In practice the Arc Lamp 02 uses less, because you dim it and the motion sensor switches it off when nobody is there. You can also find the energy label as a PDF under downloads.

Measure before you order
The clamp of the Arc Lamp 02 fits a desktop 12 to 40 mm thick. Also check that the edge is free: the clamp plate needs to reach it from below. The cable on the lamp is about 80 cm, and the adapter adds another 1.8 metres of cable. A socket within roughly 2.5 metres is therefore enough.
Indoor use only
The Arc Lamp 02 has protection rating IP20 and is made for a dry indoor room. Do not put anything on the lamp head: the lamp must not be covered.
