The hunt for the (Dark) Knight
"This is the keyboard that people deserve and need. So we will chase it, because everyone wants to have it. It is a silent guardian, a watchful protector... It is a Dark Knight!". Thank you Christopher Nolan, we could not have said it better ourselves.
Functionality
The frame of the Knight is made of aluminium, which makes it a sturdy unit. The Gateron switches type lightly, respond quickly and last a long time (100 million clicks). You can also remove the keycaps and switches with the supplied tools. In addition, the keys are programmable. So you can set up the keyboard entirely to your liking.
Compact format
The X-Bows has a compact format. The popular 75% layout has all the keys you need. The keyboard comes with a numeric section. This is not attached to the keyboard, however. With a second USB-C cable you can use it separately from the keyboard. Both the keyboard and the numeric keypad also have magnetic strips on the left and right, which allow the two to be attached to each other. This also supplies the numeric section with power straightaway, so you only have to connect the keyboard.
Split design
The Knight is also set up as a split keyboard, but is held together by extra keys. You can now operate these frequently used keys in the middle with your thumb or index finger. This relieves the weaker little finger. The keys curve along with the fingers for optimal relaxation.
Matching X-Bows wrist rest
X-Bows has developed a wrist rest especially for its keyboards. It fits the keyboards perfectly and sets your wrists at the right height to use the keyboard. This benefits relaxation in the fingers, hand, wrists and arm. Please note: the width of the wrist rest matches the width of the keyboard. The Numpad falls outside this.
You can add the wrist rest to your order at the top right of the page. You can read more about the X-Bows wrist rest here.
Anyone who spends a lot of time at the computer knows that this can put a strain on your wrists, shoulders, back and neck. A good keyboard can help you with this. The Knight keyboard from X-Bows, for example, has a compact and split design. The keys are easy to press and respond quickly. All of this is intended to minimise strain on the muscles, which can help to prevent or reduce injuries.
With the No-Key-Rollover (NKRO) programmable driver you can also add macros. This lets you make whole sentences appear with a simple key combination. The keyboard also has backlighting. Here you can choose from 16.8 million (!) different settings.
The keys of the Knight are ortholinear. This means that the keys are positioned directly above each other instead of the usual staggered arrangement. The ergonomic reasoning is that it is easier for your fingers to move straight up and down instead of diagonally. It will take some getting used to, but it is worth it!
Four magnetic rubber caps are also supplied. You can attach these to the underside of the keyboard and numeric section to raise the back a little higher. We advise against this for ergonomic reasons, however.
"What functions does the LED backlighting have?"
With the software this is fully adjustable to your wishes: which colour, when the LEDs light up, animations. Almost anything is possible.
"The layout looks rather unusual, is it easy to get used to?"
For ergonomic reasons this keyboard has what is known as a column layout. In the long run this is more pleasant for your fingers, but you do need to get used to it. Assume that you will need a few weeks to get used to the new layout.
"Is this keyboard suitable for Mac OS?"
The keyboard has a Windows layout, but with the software it is possible to adjust this. The keyboard then simply works on a Mac. Once the drivers for Mac OS X are released, you will also be able to set the RGB backlighting.
