An ode to the Deskbike

On your bike to... at work

Always the same old fuss with those cyclists. They are literally everywhere and move aside for no one. On the road, on the pavement, at my desk, in the meeting room. I even saw one in the lift recently. They're mad.

Why the Deskbike?

Move at work

Cycling is healthy. We are cycling more and more. In addition to the city bike, e-bike, MTB, e-MTB and numerous other versions, there is also the desk bike. A bike for under your desk!

Most current workplaces are perfectly suited for it: the desk bike. Thanks to the widely used electric sit-stand desks, you can now easily raise your desk for the Desk Bike. Because simply standing still - as we now know - is certainly not enough to get your daily dose of exercise.

Active working posture

You are probably already working on an active posture, especially if you spend long days in the office. Alternating between sitting and standing, taking the stairs, getting drinks for colleagues. With the Deskbike, you can add a new dimension that truly provides movement.

While cycling, you can immediately see your heart rate go up. Where I make about 50-60 beats per minute sitting down, I already increase that to about 70-80 by cycling very gently on the Deskbike. Are you wearing a jumper? Then make sure you have a t-shirt underneath so you don't get too warm.

Adjustable resistance

You can determine the resistance yourself with the rotary knob on the Deskbike. The knob is quite easy to operate from a sitting position. The lightest setting turns wonderfully smoothly, the heaviest setting really provides a good amount of resistance. From the lightest setting, the knob turns about 7 times until it reaches the heaviest setting, so don't be afraid to turn it vigorously.

What makes Deskbike so good?

The Deskbike really puts the body to work and it can be sustained for a longer period. With an office job, you often can't walk around enough to get your daily dose of exercise. With a desk bike, this is a thing of the past.

Alternate regularly

Alternating your posture is not only good for you, but also pleasant. In the case of the Deskbike, we advise cycling for a maximum of 30 minutes. The relatively large comfort saddle can eventually become a bit irritating and give a sleepy feeling to your bottom. As soon as you feel that, it's better to switch to sitting or standing.

Storage and use

The Deskbike can be folded for storage. You do this with the locking pin in the frame. When unfolded, it is about 89 cm deep, when folded only 33 cm. So it never gets hugely in the way if you want to sit or stand. Thanks to the 4 wheels under the Deskbike, it is also mobile, and you never have to lift the 15 kg bike. The wheels are also useful while cycling, as you can easily find a good position relative to your desk.

Also definitely suitable for sports enthusiasts

The Deskbike certainly won't offer you a sporty experience like a Wahoo Kickr or Taxc bike trainer can. You don't have the grip of handlebars, and the resistance cannot be replicated either. Nevertheless, you can use the Deskbike for your sporting ambitions.

Do you exercise before or after work? Then a bike under your desk is perfect for warming up or cooling down. Before training, you can warm up nicely and already increase your heart rate. After a strenuous effort, it's perfect to get your legs working at a low intensity.

The Deskbike is delivered unassembled. With the help of the assembly video next to this and the manual which you can find under the 'downloads' heading, it is quite easy to assemble it.

You can keep a good track of your efforts on the bike with the Deskbike app and the optional sensor for the bike.

While cycling, it displays your speed (1), the number of minutes (2), and the distance (3) you are cycling. It also provides an estimate of calories burned (4). If you find it difficult to remember to grab the bike every day, the notification (5) is useful. You can enter a time each day for the app to give you a reminder.

The app saves your efforts (6), so they can be reviewed. It's fun to see how many kilometres you've covered. You can even compete with colleagues to see who has covered the greatest distance.

The app is worthwhile in itself, but there are some aspects that could use attention and improvement. For example, you need to activate it yourself when you start cycling, and it sometimes loses connection if you leave the app to open another application.
