Why the Bodycool hybrid cooling vest?

The Bodycool Hybrid is a vest that can provide cooling in various (warm) conditions. For example, as pre-cooling for athletes or simply during work (in a warehouse, in the garden, as a postal worker or window cleaner).

A bit of both

The Bodycool Hybrid cooling vest owes its name to something, of course. Namely, its versatility! This cooling vest can provide cooling through the evaporation method or by using PCM cool packs.

For the evaporation method, you submerge the cooling vest in tap water. The vest absorbs the moisture and in this way provides cooling for 2 to 8 hours. The duration depends on various conditions such as ambient temperature and humidity.

The PCM cool packs can be used by activating them in the fridge, freezer, or in ice water. Once activated, insert them into the designated compartments in the cooling vest (two on the chest, two on the back). The cool packs stay in place with the help of the Velcro fasteners.

The Bodycool Hybrid is equipped with a sturdy YKK zip. This makes it easy to put on and take off. A zip is more durable than Velcro because a zip usually lasts longer. In addition, this vest has a neater and more streamlined appearance.

The right temperature

The PCM cool packs come in 5 different variants. Each variant has its own colour, but more importantly; its own temperature. For example, there are two variants that are ideal for use during sports in (hot) conditions. These have a temperature of 6.5ºC or 15ºC. The cool packs for work have a temperature of 21ºC, 24ºC or 29ºC.

Cooling improves performance

Studies have shown that a cooling garment is an effective means of improving performance. Wearing a cooling vest extends working time by an average of 16.4%. Employees or athletes can sustain their work (or sport) for longer.

The table below shows how much performance decreases at a certain ambient temperature. For example, racing driver Max Verstappen likes to use the PCM CoolOver under his racing overall. Activating vest and cool packs  

The Hybrid vest can be reactivated once it has dried after wearing. The optional cooling elements can also be reactivated. The maximum number of reactivations is shown below.

Health and safety

The Bodycool Hybrid koelvest combines two cooling technologies: evaporative cooling with plain water (INUTEQ-H2O) and plant-based PCM cooling elements (INUTEQ-PAC, 100% biobased according to USDA certification). According to the Inuteq safety data sheets, both are free of hazardous components and non-toxic. Under normal use and direct skin contact, no risks are known. All Inuteq products comply with the European REACH regulation (1907/2006/EC).

If a cooling element leaks

The PCM in the cooling elements of the Bodycool Hybrid koelvest is not acutely toxic. Rinse skin or eyes that come into contact with the contents with plenty of water and consult a doctor if symptoms persist. If someone swallows the contents, contact a doctor immediately. Stop using a damaged element.

Wash before first use

Planning to wear this over light-coloured clothing? Give it a single wash before you use it for the first time. New textiles can release a little excess dye the first time they get wet. That is normal for coloured fabrics. An initial wash rinses out the loose dye, so your clothing stays clean.

How to store the vest

Storing the vest for a longer period? Preferably keep it activated, in the fridge or freezer. The cooling elements then stay solid and the vest is always ready for immediate use.

If you prefer to store the vest at room temperature, lay it flat. The elements then stay liquid (they only solidify below the activation point of your temperature variant) and may start to “sweat” slightly after a long time, leaving a greasy film on the outside. This advice comes directly from Inuteq. For storage lasting months, the fridge or freezer is therefore the best place.
