An ode to the K7

Take a seat

Normally, we use this piece of text to write something fun and light-hearted about a product. However, I want to use it now to make sure you settle down with a cup of coffee or tea before you start reading, because there's quite a bit to tell about the K7. Are you seated? Perhaps a biscuit too? Let's go!

Why the K7?

All in one

The Keychron K7 keyboard is, as they themselves indicate, very flat. 22 mm at the back and 17 mm at the front. This is partly due to the low MX-style switches that the K7 contains, namely Keychron's own Low Profile optical switches. The switches are also Hot Swappable, which is convenient if you want to change them.

The keyboard frame consists of aluminium and ABS plastic, which gives the keyboard a solid appearance and sturdiness. Additionally, you have a choice of white or RGB backlight. The RGB version has 18 different backlight patterns. The white variant also offers various options.

Layout

The K7 keyboard has a 65% ANSI layout with 68 keys, 12 of which are multimedia. The K7 comes with extra keycaps for Windows and Mac, which you can easily swap. The keycaps are made of ABS plastic, which provides a soft sound.

What makes the K7 so good?

You can use the K7 keyboard wired or wirelessly. Wireless connection is via Bluetooth 5.1. This way, you can use the keyboard on up to three devices simultaneously, for example, on your PC, laptop, and tablet. Switching between devices is easy using the key combinations fn1 + Q/W/E. You can read more about this on pages 11 and 12 of the user manual.

The back of the frame incorporates two feet that can be unfolded to two different heights. This allows you to use your keyboard flat or at an angle of 6° or 9°.

The K7 is equipped with a rechargeable 1550mAh li-polymer battery. When the RGB backlight is set to the lowest brightness, the battery lasts approximately 34 hours, excluding sleep mode. This is a bit shorter than we are used to from Keychron, but still excellent!
