Evoluent Product Development
Due to discomfort when using a computer mouse, Jack Lo began sketching an ergonomic mouse in 1994. This was the world's first mouse with a fully upright position. Jack tried to convince various mouse companies but was repeatedly rejected. Jack and his new partner Ping stuck to his idea and exhibited a prototype at Comdex 2001 in Las Vegas. Jack was encouraged by the public to produce and distribute his mouse himself. He invested all his savings into his project and did everything himself, from industrial design to creating the packaging, website, brochures, and advertisements. Eventually, he went to Asia and found a manufacturer willing to produce his mouse.
After many months of collaboration, the first Evoluent VerticalMouse rolled off the production line at the end of 2002. After the introduction of this mouse, Jack started working on PR, sales, and technical support. Meanwhile, Ping took care of orders and was responsible for shipping. Reviews of the ergonomic mice were glowing, but unfortunately, sales grew slowly due to a lack of distribution. Copies stored in Jack's house seemed to be the beginning of an overwhelming number of orders. In 2004, the VerticalMouse 2 was designed and sold. Compared to the previous model, this version featured improved button response, pointer response, styling, fit, and finish.
Meanwhile, Jack continued to keep customers satisfied, ensuring they had a pleasant experience using their ergonomic mouse. He helped resolve production issues and manually inspected every mouse made in the factory.
