Fumbling for the cable behind your screen, flipping the plug round, flipping it round again. You can forget all about that ritual. Just place your phone on the desk, right on the little lightning bolt, and the Powerdot Charge 01 does the rest. Charging has never been so effortless.

Why the Powerdot Charge 01?

Wireless charging, flush with the desktop

The Powerdot Charge 01 is a wireless charger that you build into your desk top. The charging surface is virtually flush with the top: only a 2.3 mm edge protrudes above it. A small lightning bolt marks the spot where your phone should be placed. That’s all you can see of it, and that’s exactly the point.

Up to 15W for phones, earbuds or watches

Devices that support wireless charging can charge on the Powerdot Charge 01 at up to 15W. Forming Function mentions smartphones, earbuds and watches. How quickly your device actually charges is determined by the device itself; the 15W is the charger’s maximum output.

How to use it

The Powerdot Charge 01 is powered via the included 20W adaptor and a 1-metre fixed USB-C cable. Plug the adaptor into a socket under or next to your desk and click the cable into place. Then place your phone with the back facing down on the charging surface, centred over the lightning bolt symbol.

How to install it

Drill a Ø79 mm hole in the desk top, lower the Powerdot Charge 01 into the hole from above and tighten the fixing nut from below. Then connect the cable to the adapter. All you need is a drill with a hole saw – and certainly no electrician.

Ergonomic benefits

A wireless charger built into the desk top doesn’t change your sitting posture, but it does make your desk tidier. You no longer have to reach for a cable behind your screen or bend down to a power strip under the table. The Powerdot Charge 01 has a fixed position, and so does your phone. That saves you from having to search for it and keeps loose cables at bay.

Measure carefully before drilling

Make sure your desk top is no more than 30 mm thick and that you have a 79 mm hole saw. The Powerdot Charge 01 requires approximately 48 mm of space beneath the tabletop, plus the cable. If there’s a drawer or frame beneath that spot, choose a different position.

Cases and holders

In practice, wireless charging works through a thin case, but not through metal or a magnetic plate. If in doubt, test it without a case. If your phone is positioned slightly off-centre from the lightning bolt symbol, it will charge more slowly or not at all. So make sure to place it exactly in the centre.
