24-hour chair
When to choose a 24-hour chair
Nice chair, but it comes at a price! It's wise to ask yourself if you need such an office chair. Ask yourself the following questions, and if you can answer them with yes, then a 24-hour office chair might just be the best option.
- Does the work you do need to be performed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week?
- Do your colleagues also sit on the office chair?
- Is the work primarily performed while sitting?
Why is a 24-hour office chair better than a regular office chair?
Better might not be the right word. In some situations, a 24-hour chair is a better choice. It is primarily a different chair, and this is mainly reflected in the points below.
Material use
The main difference, besides the chair's appearance, often lies in the materials used. These are resistant to the higher stress the chair endures due to being occupied 24/7.
To give an example, we have researched the difference in the use of steel and aluminium between, for instance, the Ergopro Comfort NPR1813 and the Ergopro Control. Specifically, 2.6 and 2.2 KG in favour of the Ergopro Control. The proportion of plastic, however, is 5 KG lower in the Control. This indicates that stronger material is specifically chosen for certain components.
Support
In addition to using more durable and stronger materials, a 24-hour office chair is characterised by offering better support. For example, the backrest is equipped with lumbar supports that also provide lateral support. This ensures optimal support and is also very useful for office races. The seat and backrest are extra thick and pre-formed to ensure more contact with the body.
Adjustability
No one is built the same. Therefore, when choosing a chair that will be used by multiple people, it is very important to select an extensively adjustable office chair. 24-hour chairs virtually always meet this requirement. For example, they often feature adjustable seat depth, height-adjustable backrest, adjustable lumbar support, and adjustable seat angle.
Which complaints does a 24-hour chair help with?
A 24-hour chair is not necessarily better at combating or preventing certain complaints than an ergonomic office chair. However, a 24-hour office chair often offers better support and is suitable for higher loads. Additionally, they are extensively adjustable, allowing you to easily adopt an optimal sitting posture.
Tips for using a 24-hour office chair
As with any office chair, it is important to adjust your 24-hour chair correctly. Follow the steps below for proper chair adjustment.
- Ensure your feet are flat on the floor.
When adjusting your office chair, it's important to start from the bottom. Once the base is correct, you can proceed with further adjustments.
- Adjust the seat height of the chair.
This is correct when the angle between your upper and lower leg is 90˚ or slightly higher. When your hips are slightly higher than your knees, your legs are well supported.
- Sit well back in the chair.
The same applies here as in the first step. If you don't sit properly at the back of the chair, you will adjust the chair's settings later based on an incorrect basic posture.
- Adjust the seat depth.
The 'fist' rule for the correct seat depth is simple. Ensure there is enough space between the edge of the seat and your knee hollow for your fist to fit horizontally.
- Sit against the backrest and adjust the height.
Ensure the backrest is at the correct height for optimal support. The backrest is correctly positioned when the lumbar support fits into the curve of your lower back, which is often just above your belt.
- Adjust the lumbar support correctly
