Why do I need a cable tray?

A cable tray is the ideal tool to neatly bundle, protect, and keep your cables and even power strips off the floor and/or out of sight. Look around you and you'll probably see it too. Cables stick out everywhere, they hang tangled together and often have different colours. In the worst cases, you can even trip over them. A cable tray is therefore not only an aesthetic but also a safe solution.

A desk cable tray comes in many shapes and sizes. For example, there are simple versions with a wire construction. Your cables aren't 100% out of sight, but they hang neatly under the desk and are easily accessible. The most attractive cable management solution is the closed tray. With this, cords, adapters, and power strips are completely out of sight, and you only see the tray hanging. You will also be positively surprised when you hide TV cabling with a cable tray.

Cables are also sometimes found between desks or from the desk to, for example, a power socket. These are best tidied away with a floor cable tray. This floor tray prevents annoying tripping hazards.

Is your television mounted flush against the wall and you don't have a TV unit? Then a wall tray is a brilliant solution. Your cables then hang in the tray on the wall, completely out of sight.

Choose the right cable tray

You now know a few things for sure. 1: you want to tidy away your cables. 2: you want to use a cable tray. 3: you are willing to put a few screws into your desktop. Now you need to ask yourself a few more questions to select the right cable tray. Read them through, make your choice, and pick the cable tray that best suits you. Can't figure it out? Then you can always reach out to us on chat, call us, or send an email. We've had quite a few trays in our hands.

  • 1. Which colour tray do I need?

Always choose the colour that blends best into its surroundings. Are you hanging it under a desk? Then choose the colour of the desk's frame. Are you hanging it under your TV unit? Then choose the colour of the wall (if possible).

  • 2. How much space do I have for my cable tray?

Always measure carefully first to see how many centimetres of cable tray you can hang. A common mistake is ordering a 150 cm long cable tray for a 160 cm long desk. Often, you won't have enough space between the two legs to mount it.

  • 3. How many cables and power strips do I want to tidy away?

It's quite possible that you only need to tidy away 2 or 3 cables. In that case, a short 50 cm tray is more than enough. Do you have a spaghetti explosion and some power strips and/or adapters lying around? Then a bit of extra space won't hurt. The most popular cable tray is about 110 cm long!

  • 4. Does the length matter for the appearance?

Ideally, you hang a cable tray under a desk so that it never touches your knees, but is also not visible at the edge. In that case, the length doesn't matter so much. For a TV unit where it cannot be hung out of sight, it might be nice to have it fill the entire width of the unit. Make that consideration for yourself.

  • 5. Will I often add and/or remove cables?

Don't underestimate this consideration. There are plenty of cable trays that are very simple to open or unclip. Think of the Extend, the Liftpipe, and the Flexible. These cable trays make it much easier for you to exchange, add, or remove cables, power strips, and adapters.

  • 6. I have multiple desks of different lengths. What now?

No problem, we have several options for that! The most commonly used is the Extend cable tray, because it is adjustable from 96 to 166 cm. An alternative that goes even longer is the Expand, which goes from 95 to 180 cm! Another option is to measure everything carefully and select the different lengths of the Basic cable tray. If that's not enough for you, there's also the Turn with no fewer than 5 different lengths.
