Make your own healthy snacks: oatmeal biscuits
Make your own delicious and healthy oatmeal biscuits in no time
Oatmeal cookies, this month's snack
Quick, easy and, of course, very tasty
During long days at the office, you can use some quick energy. And although it shouldn't be a sugar bomb, it should of course be tasty. I have a good alternative for you to all those chocolate bars and sugar-filled biscuits that are always within reach but far from healthy. Because where are those vending machines with healthy snacks?!
My alternative for this week is oatmeal cookies that you can quickly and easily prepare at home and take with you to work in a box.
Why oatmeal cookies? Because they are easy, simple and healthy. No added sugar, no fat, no flour. So what do they contain? Well, banana, for example, and... whatever you like! Just mix all the ingredients together and bake. Great as a healthy snack to get you through the day. Highly recommended. These cookies are also ideal if you are on a diet.
The ingredients
Grab what you can
Oatmeal and bananas are the main ingredients. The rest can be anything: nuts, dried fruit (cranberries!), pieces of dark chocolate, seeds (flaxseed!). You can create a different flavour every time! What I usually do is use 1 banana per 100-150 grams (about 1-1.5 glasses) of dry ingredients. The riper the banana, the sweeter the biscuits will be (ideal for overripe bananas with dark spots!). I never measure the ingredients precisely. I simply make a sticky banana-oatmeal paste and then shape it into round biscuits. Because I prepare the biscuits without eggs and flour, they will be a little soft on the inside.
Don't worry too much about making perfectly shaped biscuits. Different thicknesses and shapes give them even more of that 'homemade' look.
Just mash and bake
Your own golden brown treats in 20 minutes
Okay, we're almost there. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (top and bottom heat). Chop all the ingredients into smaller pieces and mix them with a mashed banana. It's best to just do it with your hands :-) Use a spoon or your hands to shape round biscuits and place them on the baking paper. And then hop... into the oven.
Bake until golden brown - about 8-12 minutes (depending on the thickness of the biscuits). Leave them to cool on a wire rack. Enjoy!
You can store the oatmeal biscuits in an airtight storage box. This will keep them fresh for about a week.
