Why the PCM insert for the Insulin travel bag?

Safe use

As a diabetic, you probably know better than anyone how important it is to keep your insulin at the right temperature. This is necessary so that you can rely on its effectiveness. Insulin that is not stored at the correct temperature can lose its efficacy. So, it's time for a cooled travel case!

Cooled insert

The PCM Biobased insert is a type of cooling element that you can place in the insulin travel bag. This keeps the insulin at the correct temperature, so you don't have to worry about its efficacy.

Easy activation

The Biobased PCM insert is filled with a type of cooling gel. You can activate it by placing the insert in the fridge or freezer. To fully activate the insert, it needs about an hour.

What makes the PCM insert for the Insulin travel bag so good?

PCM stands for bio-based Phase Change Material. This cooling technology is manufactured from plant-based materials. This makes the PCM non-toxic, 100% biodegradable, sustainable, reusable, 20% lighter than water, and causes no condensation. Please note; it is highly flammable. Health and safety

The cooling elements of the Biobased PCM 15ºC insert contain INUTEQ-PAC, a plant-based phase change material (PCM) certified as 100% biobased (USDA). According to the safety data sheet, the material is not a hazardous substance or mixture (EU Regulation 1272/2008). It contains no persistent or bioaccumulative components, is insoluble in water and is expected to be biodegradable.

If a cooling element leaks

It is not acutely toxic and no symptoms are known. Rinse skin or eyes that come into contact with the contents with plenty of water and consult a doctor if symptoms persist. If someone swallows the contents, contact a doctor immediately. Stop using a damaged element and dispose of it in line with local waste regulations.

Service life and regulations

The cooling elements of the Biobased PCM 15ºC insert are reusable and have been assessed in laboratory testing for long-term stability, so they retain their performance over many cooling and activation cycles. All Inuteq products comply with the European REACH regulation (1907/2006/EC).

How to store the cooling elements

Storing the elements for a longer period? Preferably keep them activated, in the fridge or freezer. They then stay solid and are always ready for immediate use.

If you prefer to store them at room temperature, lay them flat. The filling then stays liquid (the elements only solidify below the activation point of the temperature variant) and may start to “sweat” slightly after a long time, leaving a greasy film on the outside. This advice comes directly from Inuteq. For storage lasting months, the fridge or freezer is therefore the best place.
