| 1 | Analyse your challenge |
Think carefully about everything you want to tidy away. In most cases, you won't just be tidying away your cables. The adapter for your laptop, for example, a USB hub, or power strips under your desk should also be included.
If you map this out properly for yourself, it will save you hassle later.
| 2 | Think carefully about your flexibility |
You might just be thinking ‘get rid of those cables!’ right now, and you'd be right. But do consider that in a week, a month, or a year, you might want to add or remove some things.
A new laptop, a new lamp, an LED strip on your wall – the reasons for needing to add or remove cables are varied. However, there's a good chance it will happen.
| 3 | Inventory your required products |
Consider the route of your cables in advance or sketch it out briefly on a piece of paper. It helps you form an idea of what you might need.
Do you want to bundle those cables across your desk? What will you do with your power strips that are currently on the floor? That white wall – you'll easily see all the cables running along it. What can you do about that? If necessary, seek advice, for example via the chat.
| 4 | Is your cabling still correct? |
If you're going to tidy everything away neatly, there's a good chance your cables will take a less direct route to their destination. You'll bundle them or slightly reroute them so they're less visible. In that case, there's a possibility that your current cables are too short.
Therefore, include the length of your cables in your inventory of necessities. For example, we often see that mouse and keyboard cabling is quickly too short. You can simply purchase USB extension cables for this.
| 5 | Work step by step and logically |
Place your keyboard and mouse close to your body. Your arms won't have to reach as far, which provides more relaxation for your shoulders.
- Untangle all your cables
- Swap out short cables for longer ones
- Reconnect everything
- First, neatly tidy everything above the table
- Then from the wall to your table
- You can now tidy away excess length under the table
| Bonus | Give your cables space |
If you tidy away the cables properly, they'll be nice and taut. So, make sure that the cables for your mouse, keyboard, phone, desk lamp, etc., have enough slack. We always place them a bit further on the desk and give the mouse and keyboard, for example, about 10 cm of extra slack.
