Description
Finger painting
Always wanted to finger paint without getting messy? Look no further, because the Wacom Intuos Art lets you create the most beautiful artworks with your fingers!
Why the Wacom Intuos Art drawing tablet?
The Intuos Art could easily become your new best friend. Stunning design, high quality and a joy to use. Whether you want to use it purely as a mouse or also as a drawing tool. When you think of a pen tablet, you think of Wacom. And not without reason. The quality is, without exaggeration, fantastic, and you can see that the products are not only made for users, but also by users.
Especially when working in programmes that require high precision, a drawing tablet like the Wacom Intuos Art is a great start. Think of programmes such as Photoshop, Illustrator, 3D drawing programmes, etc. You control the cursor with simple pen movements, and you click by simply tapping the tablet with the pen.
What does a drawing tablet mean for your posture?
The familiar posture of holding a pen allows you to work more relaxed. This puts much less strain on your wrist and arm muscles than with a flat mouse.
In addition, you can place the pen tablet nicely centrally in front of your body, so you don't have to work beyond shoulder width. Your shoulder muscles will also appreciate this.
An additional advantage is that the drawing tablet makes no distinction between left- and right-handed users. You can easily switch to distribute the load. It also allows you to operate the tablet with two hands. You can move the cursor with one hand and operate the buttons with the other.
With multi-touch support, you can simply use your fingers for regular mouse and click work. This gives you an extra option to vary your movements. This can make mousing just a little more pleasant. In addition, functions such as two-finger scrolling, swiping left and right, and rotating also allow you to work a little faster.
For good posture, place the drawing tablet as close to your body as possible. Place the keyboard directly above it so that it is also not too far from your body. If you are going to work more with the keyboard for a while, it is wise to slide the drawing tablet aside.
During testing, we noticed that you tend to grip the pen tightly. In our opinion, this is somewhat amplified by the small buttons on the standard pen supplied. We therefore advise you not to use these buttons and to link their functions to the keys on the drawing tablet. This can be done very easily with the included Wacom driver.
Gripping the pen also has a bit to do with getting used to it. So give it a week or two to get used to the new way of working.
This is what makes the Wacom Intuos Art so good
That Wacom has been developing drawing tablets for years is already evident in this entry-level model. Everything has been thought through. The pen weighs about 10 grams, which is equivalent to a normal pen and therefore does not cause extra strain. Due to the flat design (6 mm at the front) of the Intuos Art, you also don't have to lift your arm when operating the drawing tablet.
The feeling you experience when moving the pen on the drawing tablet is similar to working with a marker on paper. This makes it much easier to perform drawing tasks. For maximum precision, it is best to disable the pen's functions, so that you only move the cursor and use the extra buttons as mouse buttons.
The extra buttons can be found at the top of the drawing tablet and can be programmed as desired using the Wacom Intuos driver. The functions can even be adjusted per application.
You don't necessarily have to touch the drawing tablet with the pen to move the cursor. You can set it to register movements from about one cm above the surface. This can be very useful when drawing. You want to be able to move your brush without getting all sorts of streaks across your work.
The surface of the drawing tablet corresponds to your screen(s), so if you place the mouse in the top right corner of the tablet, the cursor on the screen will take over this position. This works differently from a normal mouse, where you always have to move the mouse towards the desired position.
The fine details
The dimensions of the tablet are 275 x 217 x 6-10 mm. The part that registers the pen is slightly smaller, namely 216 x 135 mm. The reason these dimensions differ is mainly due to the extra buttons at the top. In addition, it prevents you from having to balance on the edge of the tablet to reach the edges of your screen. The weight of the tablet is 480 grams.
If you work a lot in different workplaces, a smaller model might be more convenient. Its smaller sibling weighs 280 grams and has the following dimensions: 210 x 170 x 6-10 mm. Both tablets have a detachable 150 cm USB cable. This reduces the risk of damaging the connection when taking it in and out of your bag.
The Wacom label at the top serves as a holder for your pen and ensures that you don't lose the pen while travelling.
For an additional charge, you can equip the drawing tablet with a rechargeable Li-Ion battery and wireless USB receiver. You can find the kit to make your Wacom wireless here. At the bottom of the drawing tablet, you will find a compartment where you can neatly store both the battery and the USB receiver. This compartment is easily accessible via the removable cover.
We also discovered that there are 3 spare pen nibs hidden here. That's handy! The pen nibs wear out over time. Friction occurs between the pen and the surface of the drawing tablet. This is deliberately done to bring the experience as close to reality as possible. If you don't press too hard, the wear of the nibs is not too bad. You can also play with the pressure sensitivity to extend the life of the nib.
Wear and tear naturally depends on the work you do with it. If you press hard or make many short movements, the nib will wear out faster. Wacom states that the nib should last approximately 20 million pen strokes and advises replacing the nib when it still protrudes 1 mm. By replacing the nib in time, you prevent scratching your tablet.
The pressure sensitivity of the pen is also a nice extra. It allows you to influence the thickness of the lines without having to change all sorts of settings. This makes it possible, for example, to start with a thin line and gradually make it thicker.
You shouldn't miss this either
Wacom has created an extensive driver for its drawing tablets, allowing you to fully customise the tablet to your preferences. Without the driver, the drawing tablet works with limited functionality on Windows. For Mac users, installing the driver is essential, as it will not work without it.
Installation is easy; the driver is supplied on a CD-ROM. If your PC or Mac is not equipped with a CD-ROM drive, you can find the driver on this page or on the Wacom website. With the help of the driver, you can, among other things, program the 4 extra keys, and change the pen's settings and sensitivity.
