Why work ergonomically?
Although ergonomic workstations are becoming increasingly popular, we’ve noticed that ergonomics at work is often still an afterthought. Research has shown that office workers spend 95% of their day sitting at a desk. It’s therefore important to equip the workplace with suitable solutions; everyone is different, which means that a standard solution is by no means comfortable for everyone.
Ergowerken can advise you on the layout and use of aids. Ergonomic products are not just for people who already have complaints (although they can alleviate them); they are primarily designed to prevent complaints.
An investment in ergonomics is an investment in yourself or your staff. This allows you to reduce complaints and, consequently, the costs associated with absenteeism caused by, for example, mouse arm (also known as RSI) or back, shoulder and neck complaints in the long term. Carpal tunnel syndrome alone accounts for 15% of workplace injuries, and this condition accounts for 6% of new disability benefit claims.
Looking at the ICT sector, RSI is actually responsible for 12% of new disability benefit claims. Correct sitting posture, varying your posture and the correct use of aids can reduce such risks.
