Which ergonomic mouse is the best?

Is there such a thing as 'one mouse to rule them all'?

"One of the best ergonomic mice, please."

Wouldn't that be nice? You visit an ergonomic webshop because you're looking for an ergonomic mouse. You don't know exactly what you need, but you're sure you'll find out soon enough. You open the ergonomic mice category and see... 1 mouse. It is surrounded by superlatives. There is some doubt, but thanks to the title 'The best ergonomic mouse in the world', you know for sure. This is the one.
De beste ergonomische muis ter wereld
Okay, back to reality. At the time of writing, this website has more than 40 ergonomic mice. All of these mice can provide added value to the user. They are not there just to give you lots of choice. Although they have been developed with virtually the same idea in mind (more comfortable mice), they each have their own specific characteristics.

These features may be slightly more effective for a particular complaint, a specific requirement (I want extra support here and there), the type of work you do or the workplace you have at your disposal. The interesting thing about this is that this information often does not come from the manufacturer, distributor or seller. It is the customer themselves who gives the different mice their character. But I'll come back to that later.

Every manufacturer has a different starting point when it comes to product development. They develop based on an idea, an experience, a customer request or because they think their idea will make a difference in the market. If you look at a number of major players in the ergonomic mouse market, it is no different. Let's take three names. Evoluent, Contour and Hippus (handshoemouse) are now well-known names and develop extremely popular mice. Evoluent with seven different models, Contour with the Rollermouse and the Contour mouse, and Hippus with their Handshoemouse, developed in the Netherlands.

Fortunately, they also offer the same models, with and without wires, for left- and right-handed users. That makes the choice a little easier.
